These temples are preserved and protected by the Department of Archaeology, MOCA Government of the Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh. The books on the Bengal temples of this period are numerous, and some of these publications are pioneering. This publication is neither an exhaustive study of these temples, nor is it aimed at the established typological and formalistic approaches to the temples from a conventional stylistic architectural and art historical perspective. This book, however, hints at the ways these monuments or monumental remains can be addressed from multiple points of view and concepts. Along with contextualizing the temples on their social, economic, religious and landscape contexts, this book aims to introduce the readers from a broader background to the multiplicity of heritage meanings and makings generated through the perceptions and practice at various disciplinary, discursive, and popular domains.
